Module overview

The project module involves approximately 750 hours of commitment including skills developmental work in Semester 1, formation of a literature review across Semester 2, and then full-time practical-based research work (ca. 450 hours) across the Summer period culminating in a dissertation. The module commences with skills training that leads in to literature research and project planning, which forms the basis of a summatively assessed literature review/introduction at the ed of Semester 2 and a project plan at the beginning of the summer period. To support the preparation of the review, plan and their presentation, the module contains formal workshop sessions from communication and language specialists as well as from the library support. An interim report on the research carried out is due in early August providing a formative assessment mechanism to build the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake the final dissertation preparation. After feedback on the interim report, an assessed formal presentation is made to a panel of examiners and the MSc cohort (generally late August) and the final dissertation is submitted in mid September.
