Module overview

The Confident Teacher, PGCAP Module 1, provides an overview of teaching and learning in higher education. The module offers opportunities to explore and implement a range of evidence-informed, inclusive and reflective teaching and learning approaches within your own discipline-specific context. Through interactive sessions, practice-based activities and peer discussions, you will develop confidence in your teaching and consider how different approaches can create meaningful learning opportunities and positively impact students. Building on this foundation, you will develop skills in designing and facilitating aligned learning and teaching using a range of flexible approaches. You will be introduced to key theories and practices underpinning learning, teaching, inclusive participation, assessment and feedback, and consider how these work together to support effective student learning. Attending the sessions will provide opportunities to engage in discussions about established and emerging academic practices widely used and recognised across higher education. You will reflect on your continuing professional development and consider how your teaching can remain responsive, adaptable and future-focused within a rapidly changing higher education environment.
