Jack D.A. Sharpen is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Proteomic Research at the University of Southampton. He received his PhD in Molecular Biology from The University of Manchester exploring multi-omics analyses and technologies for novel applications in forensic post-mortem modelling and biomolecular archaeology. Having earned a First Class degree at Manchester in Biochemistry with Industrial/Professional Experience, he has also worked within structural proteomics on intestinal mucus stability in the Mucin Biology Group at The University of Gothenburg. This multidisciplinary experience developed across both experimental and computational multi-omics is currently focused on elucidating deep molecular phenotyping for metastatic breast cancer. Funded by Against Breast Cancer for their ABC Discover 2 and using the DietCompLyf Biobank, he is utilising integrated methods combining multi-omics, clinical, dietary and lifestyle information to derive target biomarkers for metastatic progression and recurrence to deliver novel precision treatments for breast cancer.
Outside of his day-to-day running mass spectrometers and analysing large data sets, Doctor Sharpen is active and enthusiatic for public engagement, pedagogy, science outreach and charity work.
