Having successfully completed this module, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:
- Calculation of design loads on steel and concrete structures for both serviceability and ultimate limit states
- Analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures using limit state theory
- Design techniques for steel and reinforced concrete framed buildings
- Conceptual choice and preliminary sizing of key elements for structural design
Transferable and Generic Skills
Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Solving problems via idealisation and analysis
- Effective communication through written reports
- Application of critical analysis to engineering data
Subject Specific Practical Skills
Having successfully completed this module you will be able to:
- Produce reinforcement detailing arrangements for reinforced concrete members
- Perform detailed design calculations for simple steel frames
- Undertake design of steel structural members in accordance to Eurocode 3
- Undertake design of reinforced concrete beams, columns, and slabs in accordance to Eurocode 2
