Intelligent Mobile Robotics
From autonomous vehicles and planetary exploration to offshore inspection and search-and-rescue operations, intelligent robots are transforming the way complex engineering tasks are performed. This module explores the technologies that allow autonomous systems to perceive their environment, make decisions and operate safely in dynamic, unstructured environments across land, sea and air.
You will investigate the probabilistic methods that underpin robotic perception, localisation and decision-making, learning how engineers enable autonomous systems to interpret uncertain sensor data and navigate complex environments. Through practical implementation on robotic platforms, you will develop experience of integrating sensing, reasoning and control to close the complete sense–think–act loop that lies at the heart of modern autonomous systems. Throughout the module, you will strengthen your skills in computational modelling, algorithm development, systems integration and engineering problem-solving while gaining insight into the challenges of designing reliable autonomous technologies.
By the end of the module, you will be able to develop and evaluate perception and reasoning algorithms for autonomous robotic systems, equipping you with advanced skills that are highly valued in robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, marine technology, aerospace and other rapidly evolving engineering sectors. -

Intelligent Mobile Robotics
This module teaches the theory and practice of robotic perception and reasoning needed for mobile autonomous vehicles to operate in dynamic, unstructured environments across land, sea and air. You will learn probabilistic methods so that robots can self-localise within and make sense of their surroundings. These methods will be implemented on real platforms to close the see-think-act loop for robust delivery of missions in complex fields that have not been designed to accommodate robots. -

Interaction Science
This module explores the science of interaction, a formalisation of how humans, animals and intelligent agents engage with each other through interactive systems. The module extends foundational concepts of HCI and studies both classical and emerging perspectives in affective computing, activity theory, approaches to designing for behaviour change (such as nudges and gamification), animal–computer interaction (ACI), human–robot interaction (HRI), digital health, and design for disability. Through lectures, practical workshops, and a group project, you will learn how to design, implement, and evaluate interactive systems. The module emphasises reflective and user-centred design processes. You will learn to apply appropriate methods of thematic analysis with reflexivity, ensuring sensitivity to diverse user perspectives and ethical considerations in design and evaluation. -
