Next Generation Wireless
About
As mobile speech and data communications have become part of everyday life, the research group plays an important role in advancing the technologies needed to take next steps in wireless communication.
As part of the Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) department at the University of Southampton, our research themes include:
- bio-inspried wireless
- coding and modulation
- cooperative communication
- joint algorithm/hardware design
- machine-to-machine communication
- millimetre wave communication
Our long-term focus is on communications and information theory. This provides ideas for more short-term, applied research, while appealing to industrial partners across the globe.
Having completed a range of studies related to the current operational wireless systems and their components, the group’s research activities have now progressed to the next generation of wireless communications systems and their components.
The group is also involved in the European Networks of Excellence Newcom and the Virtual Centre of Excellence (VCE) in mobile communications.
Bringing next-generation technology to the whole world
A Southampton expert's work will help bring wireless communications to some of the most inaccessible places on Earth.
