Zero Carbon Ship Resistance and Propulsion
Reducing emissions from global shipping is one of the most important challenges facing the maritime sector. Achieving zero-carbon shipping requires engineers who can improve vessel efficiency, develop innovative propulsion solutions and integrate renewable energy technologies into future ship designs.
In this module, you will develop an advanced understanding of the factors that influence ship resistance and propulsion performance. You will apply theoretical, experimental and computational techniques to investigate fluid-flow behaviour, hull–propulsor interactions and propulsion system optimisation. You will also explore how renewable energy technologies, including wind-assisted propulsion, can contribute to reducing vessel energy consumption and emissions.
By the end of the module, you will be able to evaluate advanced propulsion concepts and assess engineering strategies for achieving low- and zero-carbon shipping. The module prepares you to contribute to the development of the next generation of sustainable maritime systems. -
