Global Contexts and Systems
The Global Contexts and Systems module explores the complex relationships between economic, socio-political, cultural, technological, and environmental systems that shape our world and our interactions with it. Guided by frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, UNESCO global policy, decolonial perspectives and environmental issues, this module encourages critical thinking and contextual awareness.
Contemporary issues such as globalisation, climate change, migration, digital inequality, and the ethics of emerging technologies form key areas of exploration. The module equips you with the research skills to critically examine the role of infrastructure, governance, and systemic inequality while recognising the responsibility and potential impact of your own position within these contexts. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary understanding, enabling you to consider the social, cultural, and ethical dimensions of your field. You will be encouraged to reflect on your assumptions, values, and disciplinary norms, fostering the capacity to drive responsible and informed change. -

Global Cultural Heritage
This module takes a global perspective and deals with the many varieties of cultural heritage from the tangible built environment to intangible heritage represented by a society’s traditional knowledge and customs. It will explore the reasons we do, or should, value cultural heritage; from the recognition in the ‘Universal Declaration’ that participation in the cultural life of a community is a Human Right, to the economic benefits that cultural heritage tourism increasingly brings in a globalized world. It will explore the theoretical frameworks used to study cultural heritage and the ethical and legal frameworks used to protect it. It will look at how cultural heritage is presented, and the role this plays in shaping national, community and individual identities. -

Global Entrepreneurship
This module has been developed to recognise the increasing importance of, and to support, international entrepreneurship. International entrepreneurship is an established sub-domain of the entrepreneurship field. There is a growing recognition of the importance of contextual factors for entrepreneurship. Differences amongst national and cultural contexts create specific types of entrepreneurial opportunities and, because such opportunities can be created in any country, this module is pertinent for those who wish to develop entrepreneurial careers in any country across the globe.
Specifically, it examines the international aspects of entrepreneurial activity, and how firms are embedded within a rapidly changing and increasingly competitive global socioeconomic and political context. Venture capital firms, corporate venture funds and business angels have increased their financing in entrepreneurial start-ups outside of their countries of origin, while many entrepreneurial firms are now ‘born global’ in order to exploit international opportunities. This module provides an overview of global entrepreneurship, paying particular attention to the USA, Western Europe, and emerging economies in Eastern Europe South America, Africa, India, China and other Far-Eastern Asian countries, by examining context specific entrepreneurial strategies, processes and operations, which entrepreneurs are engaged in as they internationalise their entrepreneurial activities. This module recognises that new opportunities, resources, and innovations can emerge from anywhere, anytime.
