NURS1000 2025-26
Fundamentals of health and care across the life course
This module will allow students to examine the broader context of health, across the life course, from pre-conception to death. During this module, students will have the opportunity to examine and assess health and health status across the life course, and plan person centered and family centered care. Students will consider working in partnership with those with diverse needs from a range of different groups within society. This will include consideration of inclusive health across the lifespan and the intersections of child, adult, mental health, and learning disability nursing. -

CHEM1055 2025-26
Fundamentals of Kinetics and Quantum Mechanics
Physical Chemistry is concerned with the application of physics to the study of chemical systems. Through physical chemistry one can understand and predict the behaviour of chemical systems, thereby allowing these systems to be optimised. This module will provide an introduction to kinetics (how fast chemical reactions happen) and to the fundamental concepts and reasoning of quantum mechanics. -

Fundamentals of Maritime Engineering
Maritime engineering underpins global trade, offshore energy, defence, transportation and the sustainable use of our oceans. Modern ships, offshore structures and marine systems operate in complex and demanding environments, requiring engineers who can integrate knowledge from across multiple disciplines to develop safe, efficient and innovative solutions.
In this module, you will develop the core engineering knowledge that forms the foundation of maritime engineering. You will explore the fundamental principles that govern the design, performance and operation of ships and marine systems, while strengthening your analytical, mathematical and engineering problem-solving skills. Through lectures, tutorials and applied engineering examples, you will learn how different areas of maritime engineering connect and how engineers use scientific principles to address real-world maritime challenges.
By the end of the module, you will have established a strong understanding of the key concepts that underpin naval architecture and maritime engineering. You will be equipped to engage confidently with more specialised topics in hydrodynamics, ship design, marine structures and marine systems, while developing the technical foundation needed for advanced study and future careers across the maritime, offshore and ocean engineering sectors. -
SESS6065 2025-26
Fundamentals of Maritime Engineering
This fundamentals module is aimed primarily for the MSc students in Maritime Engineering Science and students on the MECH/Navel Engineering programmes. It provides them with the essential knowledge of Maritime Engineering required for their subsequent studies. This module can also be taken by other students who may need the relevant information for their degrees, subject to their Degree programme regulations. Lectures are delivered in Teaching Weeks 0 of the academic year with tutorials, examination, and coursework completed during the rest of the semester. -
